What is Recovery Management?

Research indicates that substance abusers benefit more from treatment options. A Safe Haven believes that an individual can get sober and stay sober by participating in his own recovery. We help him invest in his own life. "Recovery management" emphasizes a focus on experiences, needs and aspirations of the individual and his family.

A Safe Haven Principles

  • emphasis on resilience and recovery processes
  • recognition of multiple long term pathways and styles of recovery
  • empowerment of individuals and families in recovery to direct personal healing
  • development of individual and culture specific services
  • collaboration with diverse communities
  • commitment to best practices as identified through science and experiences of recovering people

A Safe Haven Service Practices

  • non hierarchical, time sustained, natural
  • engagement with client
  • individual assessment and service planning
  • post treatment activities emphasizing stabilization monitoring, recovery education and coaching, links to community agencies, and occasional re intervention
  • champion rights of client to manage own recovery

We support a coed population, as it enables our clients to learn how to interact, show respect and build friendships with opposite sex. For some this social skill may be a key component to their participation in their own recovery management.

Many of our graduates now serve as role models and are involved in many of the civic and charitable activities that A Safe Haven sponsors. Although the length of stay varies for every individual, you become a family and a friend. It has become a tradition to have alumni stay in touch with former roommates and A Safe Haven.
